Complete the Unit 3 Assignment 2. The Reasons for Inappropriate Behavior.
In a 5- to 8-page paper, discuss the target behavior you identified in the Unit 1 Discussion (Discussion topic 1) and address the following:
1. Briefly discuss the operational definition of your target behavior and whether you would like to increase or decrease the frequency of this behavior.
2. What is maintaining the target behavior excess or deficit you identified? Can you think of anything that motivates you to either not engage in or to increase the frequency of the target behavior?
3. How do you think the target behavior was initially learned (i.e., operant versus respondent conditioning)? Please support your choice with references and additional literature.
4. What are your current ideas for modifying the behavior? How do you plan to increase a behavioral deficit or decrease a behavioral excess? Considering the target behavior identified, what type of ethical issues might arise that you should consider?
5. Provide a realistic assessment of how effective you think you will be when attempting to modify the target behavior. Be sure to address the overall frequency and severity of the behavior.

Unit 1 Discussion
This is the behavior I selected for the unit 1
Physical activity can be defined by having any type of body movement that is produced by skeletal muscles that can result in energy expenditure. The energy expenditure can be measured in kilocalories. Physical activity in daily life can be categorized into occupational, sports, conditioning, household, or other activities. My personal behavior of choice is physical activity in my daily life. First let me start by saying that I use to do Zumba, and, on the days, I didn’t do Zumba I would go to the gym. Zumba was two days a week and gym time was three days a week. Well, it changed when it started getting cold and the holidays were coming up like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then I stopped going to the gym until about the March time frame of this year because it was too cold and I had a lot of necks, shoulder, and right arm pain which we are working on. I also don’t like exercising by myself. I do generally go to the gym 2-3 times a week because I have other things that keep me going full-time. Some benefits to exercising that will help my mindset is being healthier, the energy boost, help boost my mental health, and weight management. This will also help in having healthier bone structure, and maybe even the pains I get in my bones. I am not overweight by any means, but I am getting older and want to still be around for a long time. My main goal is to stay healthy. The intervention I will be using is to increase my exercise and gym time. I will be using my smartwatch to record the amount of activity time.
This is my 2-3-day gym schedule right now:
30 mins elliptical
20-30 reps of legs weights on two types of leg machines
20-30 reps of arms
20-30 reps of abs on two types of ab machines
20-30 minutes in the sauna
I spend about an hour or so at the gym. I would like to either increase the exercising equipment by adding in the treadmill or going to the gym 5 days a week. I usually do family time on Fridays and homework at the weekend. Once I attain the baseline data of increasing more exercising equipment or more days at the gym. I will then figure a reinforcer to intergrade into this. I’m thinking a reinforcer could be a cheat day of ice cream from dairy queen. However, the punishment for missing the gym would also have to be thought out. I believe having a family member praise me for the accomplishment of increasing gym time would be good vs. myself doing, still would want the ice cream though. When initiating any behavioral change, the behavioral analysis needs to be aware of what human and material resources are available or easily attainable in his or her work environment (Cooper, Heron & Heward, 2007). Social and material support by family members, local supervisors, consumers, peers, subordinates, and worker organizations can also have an influence on the progression of an ABA program (Cooper, Heron & Heward, 2007). The environment in which a person behaves is considered its context, whereas the stimulus is a specific event or combination of events (stimuli) that could impact the behavior (Cooper, Heron & Heward, 2007). Physical inactivity is a leading cause of death and disease (Hobbs, Godfrey, Lara, Errington, Meyer, Rochester, Sniehotta, 2013). Epidemiological evidence shows a relationship between physical activity (PA) and reduced risks of coronary heart disease, Type II diabetes and some cancers, as well as increasing life expectancy (Hobbs et al. 2013). The prevalence of disease and disability increases with age, making PA promotion an important public health objective to mitigate the burden of age-related illness (Hobbs et al. 2013). However, over 50% of adults in Europe and the USA do not achieve public health recommendations for levels of PA (Hobbs et al. 2013).
I don’t believe there will be any ethical concerns when doing my research. I have a lot of social support from my family and friends. There are so many benefits to being healthy and I want to be around to spend time with family and friends. I would also like to watch my children’s journey of life grow and to see grandchildren in the near future. Any insight is appreciated from all.
